The takeawayBook IV starts with Chapters 1 and 2 for light and shadow. Story Fragments and Book I completion determine access to the new story.

How to reach the new chapters

Nintendo’s October 9 update adds Book IV: An Island Apart to Fire Emblem Shadows. Chapters 1 and 2 are available for both light and shadow, continuing Kurt’s story as the group seeks refuge in Holtz.

Chapters unlock with Story Fragments earned in battle. Players must collect Book I’s story rewards to unlock the option to change Books from the home menu.

Separate the celebration rewards

A Fortune’s Weave launch celebration offers twelve Souls for Leda: String Siren after logging in on three separate days. Dietrich is available through the Premium Pass until October 27 at 10:59pm Pacific.

Those are different acquisition paths. The new story is part of the free update, while the Premium Pass character has a paid-pass requirement. Fire Emblem Shadows is free-to-start with optional purchases.

Our analysis: make the free and paid paths legible

The Premium Pass deadline is October 27, 2026 at 10:59 p.m. PDT, which is October 28 at 1:59 a.m. EDT in New York. The October 9 announcement gives no end date for the three-day Leda login bonus, so that deadline should not be copied across to Leda. The game also requires persistent internet and a compatible smartphone.

For a returning player, the practical sequence is to check Book I rewards, then the Change Stories menu, then the Story Fragments needed for the chapters you want. This is our reading of the published access instructions, not a report from a tested account. Keep the login reward and the Premium Pass decision separate from that sequence. A named crossover reward can attract attention, but understanding the story gate is more useful than assuming a purchase bypasses it. Nintendo does not describe such a bypass in this announcement.
