The takeawayBadlands is available on Steam, Xbox and PlayStation; Update 1.30 also brings a full wipe across all platforms.

A desert built around scarce water

DayZ Badlands launched on October 15 for Steam, Xbox and PlayStation alongside Update 1.30. Its centerpiece is Nasdara, a 267-square-kilometer terrain that Bohemia Interactive describes as its largest DayZ map. The expansion requires the base game.

Nasdara combines desert plains, mountains, abandoned oil fields and military ruins. Sun exposure and sandstorms create new medical threats: heatstroke and silicosis. Water matters beyond thirst, since survivors also need it to cool down and wash sand from their eyes after a storm.

Rebuild shelter or chase radio signals

Nearly 5,000 rebuildable structures are scattered across the map, including wells and irrigation tunnels. Restoring infrastructure can support cooperation or provide new possibilities for bases and hidden entrances. Bohemia also introduces local wildlife including mouflons, desert monitors and territorial dogs.

Motorbikes help cover the larger terrain, with ragdoll physics for crashes. Another new activity uses personal radios: Morse transmissions provide coordinates and access codes for urban bunkers. Decoding those messages gives traveling survivors a different route toward loot.

The expansion and the base-game update

Badlands is paid DLC, while the accompanying Update 1.30 brings motorbikes, selected firearms, reworked assets and quality-of-life changes to the base game. The launch announcement explicitly confirms a full wipe across all platforms, making this a fresh start for existing survivors as well.

Bohemia says it will keep monitoring performance after release. A Nintendo Switch 2 version of Badlands is planned for the first quarter of 2027; that future release is separate from the Steam, Xbox and PlayStation versions available now.
