The takeawayThe PS5 release is scheduled for November 5. The developer’s central change is a campus that connects puzzles, quests and exploration.

The space between escapes gets larger

Coin Crew Games announced a November 5 PS5 release for Escape Academy 2: Back 2 School. Its October 13 preview describes a move from the first game’s more linear structure to a fully explorable campus.

Couch and online co-op are available from the start across the campus, story and puzzles. The developer says newcomers can begin here without having played the first game.

A campus becomes part of the puzzle

The preview focuses on locations including the Headmaster’s Tower and the Humanities Campus. The team describes adding interactive landmarks, side quests and escapes after finding that some early layouts felt too open.

The editorial question is whether exploration creates satisfying connections between puzzles. A larger map by itself does not answer that; the relevant promise is that curiosity will be rewarded outside the escape rooms too.

Our analysis: an open campus still has a route

The developer specifically says the Humanities Campus is not accessible immediately. Its keyhole-shaped fountain can be seen from other viewpoints before players reach it. That detail qualifies the phrase “fully explorable”: a connected world can still use progression gates. The announcement is about the overall structure, not a promise that every location is open at the first minute.

For co-op players, that raises a useful question for a future review: how does the game keep partners oriented when they notice different leads? We would look for clear shared goals, readable landmarks and reasons to return to a space after learning something elsewhere. Those are evaluation criteria rather than confirmed interface features. A campus can make observation itself part of solving, but its scale also needs a purpose. The most revealing comparison with the first game will be what exploration contributes between escapes, not simply how far the player can walk.
