The actual change
Valve’s October 8 notes reduce the AUG’s reload time by 0.5 seconds. The same update adds a ping icon for dropped defuse kits and addresses Desert Eagle reload audio, demo-playback sound, Rush-map clipping and stability.
What it does not tell us
A quicker reload changes downtime, not every characteristic of a rifle. The notes do not announce a damage increase. Judging the AUG’s place in the buy menu still needs context and testing; we are not calling a new meta from one line of patch notes.
Useful information beyond the rifle
The defuse-kit ping icon gives the update a communication change as well as a weapon adjustment. The Desert Eagle item is specifically a sound-event fix during a silent reload, and the demo item addresses a buzzing soundscape during playback. Neither should be described as a new weapon damage model. Valve also lists localization updates alongside clipping and stability work.
Our analysis: if you return after this patch, separate a change to timing from a change to information. A shorter reload could matter when another engagement arrives before a magazine is ready; a visible kit ping can help a team point out a resource. Those are situations to examine, rather than measured improvements in win probability.
The notes do not state the AUG’s old and new absolute reload durations or publish a performance study. To compare builds, record the game version, use the same reload conditions and measure when firing becomes possible again. We have not performed that comparison here. A half-second reduction is the confirmed scope of the rifle adjustment; a competitive recommendation needs more evidence.
