The takeawayThis is an open beta, not the stable 1.62 release. You can explore locations in states you own; completing the Route 66 board requires all the maps it covers.

SCS Software announced American Truck Simulator’s 1.62 Open Beta for testing on October 20, 2026. The update expands Tourist Boards in the Atlas associated with Road Trip: Ford, including a Cross-Border Tourist Board for Route 66. We have not installed the beta or checked access through the game client. SCS announcement

Exploration and completion have different requirements

According to SCS, players can explore the board’s locations in the states they own. Earning the special postcard requires owning every map covered by the board and visiting all of its locations. Completing the board also grants a Route 66 Air Freshener. These are completion rewards, rather than items granted simply for opening the board. Official details

The distinction matters when planning a trip: access to some locations does not mean a player can finish the whole board with the maps they currently own. The beta announcement should not be read as making all map DLC free. Check the board’s map requirements before planning around its rewards. Official details

Other changes remain part of a test build

SCS also lists material and interior changes for the All-New 2025 Volvo VNL, a Goodyear update and Game Radio. These are announced features and adjustments; this article does not assess their operation or quality. SCS announcement

The developer points Steam users to the public_beta option and warns that the beta may contain bugs, instability and crashes. Treat participation as testing, with no guarantee here of performance or mod compatibility. Availability of a public beta is separate from a stable release. Beta information
